Quite a few exciting things have happened since the last update. There was my first Mother’s Day, the Easter bunny came to visit Bryson, immunization shots were given for the first time and Bryson decided it was time to become a mover and a shaker.
Mother’s Day was such a wonderful day. It wasn’t until about five days beforehand that I realized I was included in this fabulous holiday. Once it dawned on me, I was pretty excited about it. When I woke up that morning, Bryson had put flowers, a card with some goodies inside, and a self portrait on the table for me. Even Aspen got me a card. It was definitely very sweet to wake up to such precious things. Did I mention Mike is awesome? We had two family get-togethers that day (one away and one at our house). Normally I think the idea is to spend Mother’s Day with your child. However, when your child is three months old and as cute as Bryson, everyone takes him away from you the instant they see him. I think I spent two hours with just me and the little man the entire day. That would be the first hour of the morning and the hour before his bedtime. But those were some perfect hours!
The Easter bunny (and Grandparents) paid a visit to Bryson and gave him lots of goodies. He got stuffed animals, a book just his size, and some Reese’s eggs. To be fair to our son that doesn’t have any teeth yet, it didn’t seem right to deprive him of the eggs. So I took one for the team and ate them so that Bryson could have them later (still breastfeeding). I’m not sure at what time he actually got them, but I know it made him happy. Thanks Easter bunny!
At some point in all this excitement, Bryson and I had to go to the bad place. The doctor. This is usually a pretty neat visit because they weigh and measure him and we get to see how much he has grown and discuss with the doctor how awesome he is. We all tend to enjoy these happy times. Bryson is 13½ pounds and 24 inches long. His length is in the 80th percentile. He will probably outgrown me when he turns five. With all the fun that happens at these appointments, the fun expired at two months – Shot Day. Booo! I had to take Bryson by myself because Mike had to work. So my support person was the nurse that administered the shots. I braced myself for loud cries and screams, but hoped he would not feel a thing and we could go home without a tear. Wrong. There were real tears and real cries. Bryson cried too. He wailed for 5 minutes straight AFTER the shots were over. It was down right horrible. So glad that’s over with.
On a happier note, Bryson has become quite the talker. I sure wish that I knew what he was saying, because he seems to think his stories are extremely funny. He can make himself laugh with the smallest sounds. Sometimes he looks like he is trying so hard to say something very important. He gets this serious look on his face, takes a deep breath, moves his mouth…and nothing comes out. It’s awfully disheartening to him, you can just tell. Then, just when you think he’s not going to talk, out comes the loudest coo ever. It’s like he’s saying "SURPRISE"! Bryson is addicted to watching tv, so we have to be very careful when it's on to turn his head away from it. I read that tv can overstimulate such a little one, so I try to minimize it as much as possible. Not to mention the fact that we don't watch baby appropriate shows...until now. I thought that it would be an ok idea to let him watch Little Einstein since it's geared toward little ones. I tried, but I only lasted 2 minutes before I turned it off. How do grown ups watch these things?? It was not exciting. Then I tried a show called Yo Gabba Gabba. If you've never heard of this, a word of advise is to NEVER watch it! I think I'm going to have nightmares for the next three nights. It's very strange, and I'm pretty sure it terrified Bryson. I need some tips on which shows, if any, an adult can watch and not go insane. I'm sure it's an acquired taste, but I don't think I want to acquire that!
Our little man is beginning the exciting journey of becoming mobile. He is not a big fan of tummy time. He pretty much just lays there for about 10 minutes, then gets angry because nothing cool is happening. I don't blame him. I was starting to wonder how I was going to get him to learn how to roll over, but he beat me to it. Well, sort of. He won’t make any moves on his stomach, but on his back is a whole other story. He loves to dance all the time. Laying still is pretty much not an option in Bryson’s world. But the other day he took it to the next level. And for us, the “next level” means a half roll. I know for some people they may think that’s not a big deal since it’s a half roll, but it’s all about progress. The way he half rolls is hilarious. He starts by lifting his legs in the air, then grabs his shirt and pulls it to the direction of the roll, then lifts his other arm in the air like superman to give him the extra lift off. I plan on getting a video of this if I can catch him in the act. So far a picture is all I can get He tends to get camera shy.
